My own TwiLi Index offers a measure of it.<\/p>\n<p>After releasing <a href=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/copenhagen-scientists-the-top-100-on-social-media-in-2020\/\">the index for the Greater Copenhagen\/\u00d8resund region<\/a> last week, I now release the index for Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>My TwiLi Index \u2013 pronounced like \u2018twilight\u2019 without the \u2018t\u2019 at the end \u2013 ranks academic scholars affiliated to research institutions using a simple, reproducible formula based on their follower numbers on Twitter and LinkedIn. Twitter and LinkedIn are the platforms of choice for researchers and scientists, as they allow networking and interaction with niche audiences throughout the world in highly specialized fields.<\/p>\n<p>You can read about <a href=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/the-twili-index-a-new-method-to-count-scientists-social-media-following\/\">the methodology of the index here.<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3878\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3878\" class=\"size-portfolio wp-image-3878\" src=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MapWithCircles-Kopi-495x400.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"400\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The index for Denmark and the index for the Greater Copenhagen area partially overlap.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Note that the Greater Copenhagen\/\u00d8resund regional index is <em>not a subset of the index for Denmark<\/em>, as it also includes researchers from the Swedish side of the region. This can be illustrated by the map on the left.<\/p>\n<p>Since I launched the first index, for the Greater Copenhagen \/ \u00d8resund area in 2019,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cbswire.dk\/researchers-we-waste-time-and-money-writing-articles-no-one-cares-to-read\/\">it has been reviewed in several publications.<\/a> Some point to its usefulness as one of many measures of researcher success\u00a0that supplement bibliometric scores, citations, and educational activities.<\/p>\n<p>As can be seen when you browse down the names on the index (below) it is an \u2018index for Denmark\u2019 but not a \u2018Danish\u2019 index. International scholars are <strong>extremely<\/strong> well represented on the top 100.<\/p>\n<p>The Denmark index uses exactly the same methodology as the Greater Copenhagen\/\u00d8resund index for <a href=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/copenhagen-scientists-top-50-most-followed-on-social-media\/\">2019<\/a> and<a href=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/copenhagen-scientists-the-top-100-on-social-media-in-2020\/\"> 2020<\/a>. The platforms extend their reach, let them discuss research with international peers, and serve as a catalyst for inspiration in the research process. Scientists and researchers are often supported in this by university institutions as they each strive to improve their own brand among stakeholders, other scientists and institutions, and the wider public.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a part of the Danish science and research community, my ranking (see below) can serve as inspiration for new contacts. After all, these scientists clearly know what they are doing, at least in terms of social media!<\/p>\n<p><em>Are you not on the list?<\/em>\u00a0<em style=\"font-weight: inherit;\">This is the <strong>first<\/strong> time I try to map out the social media field of scientists and researchers in Denmark. It is partly based on manually extracted data (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mikeyoungacademy.dk\/the-twili-index-a-new-method-to-count-scientists-social-media-following\/\">methodology here<\/a>) and I may have missed a few active scientists and researchers who have large followings.
